Amethyst has a very powerful and strong connection to the metaphysical world and radiates an intense vibrational energy that can enhance your mind, body, and soul. It can help you see beyond the emotions that cloud your mind and give you a greater understanding of the root of your feelings.
The History
The name Amethyst comes from the Greek word Amethystos, which means not intoxicated. In Greek mythology, the wine-making and fertility deity Dionysus was responsible for the creation of Amethyst. In Ancient Rome, this god was known as Bacchus. According to the legend, Dionysus attempted to kill a young woman he was trying to court while he was intoxicated, and in order to protect the girl, the goddess Artemis transformed her into a pale quartz stone. While Dionysus was shedding his alcohol-stained tears of remorse, he accidentally spilled wine onto the girl’s crystalized body, and that created the crystal Amethyst. The Greeks then eventually started to wear this crystal to protect themselves from the effects of getting drunk on wine. In Ancient Egypt, Amethyst was used as jewelry to protect against witchcraft, guilt, and fear. In Europe, soldiers used this crystal on shields to grant protection and prevent evil thoughts.
